She was born in Blackrod, a village between Chorley and Bolton, on 16 December 1874 to William Heywood and his wife Ann Boardman.
She married Matthew Cowley in Manchester on January 2nd 1896. They had four children and for a while lived in Montreal Canada.
She died in Birkenhead on August 19 1953. Her husband later moved to Montreal where he died in 1960.
